Crop farming in East Africa has been done for a very long long time. Most of the communities have been practicing farming for decades. Its has been their livelihood.
There are two forms of crops; Food crops and cash crops. Food crops are very common with small scale farmers due to their subsistence. In small scale, they also do cash crops that they sell through cooperative societies. Cash crops are common with large scale farmers, since they take farming for pure commercial purposes.
Small scale farmers mostly farm crops for subsistence farming. However quite often they sell the surplus in other households or local markets. Some take the produce to cooperative societies.
Large scale farmers often farm popular crops like maize, wheat, tea, rice, coffee. Quite often, they market their crops to large scale buyers and even can afford to export.
